The Vines Resort is excited to announce the construction of a new 14-hole short course, designed to welcome more people to the game and offer a modern, time-friendly way to play. Construction will commence on Wednesday 18 February 2026, with the project expected to take approximately nine months and will open to the public in early summer 2026.
The new layout will incorporate the existing Lakes 1 – 8 holes, complemented by six new tee boxes and six new greens that will seamlessly integrate with the current course design. The result will be a dynamic mix of par-3 and par-4 holes, creating an engaging and enjoyable playing experience for golfers of all abilities.
Leading the project is The Vines Resort’s Superintendent Brad Pavlinovich, who brings 28 years of experience at The Vines Resort. His extensive knowledge of the landscape, region and course ensures the development will remain true to the character and quality the resort is known for. The majority of construction will be completed by The Vines’ experienced in-house team.
As part of the build, the resort will replace all irrigation infrastructure on the new short course, aligning it with the $9 million reticulation upgrade completed on the 18-hole championship course in 2024. This investment reinforces The Vines’ long-term commitment to golf course excellence and sustainability.
Designed with today’s lifestyles in mind, a full round on the short course is estimated to take approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes. For time-poor golfers, families, and social players, this offers the opportunity to enjoy a genuine golf experience without committing an entire afternoon. The format makes it easier to fit golf into busy schedules while still delivering the challenge and satisfaction of the traditional game.
Short courses are widely recognised as an important pathway for growing participation in golf. Research consistently shows that only a small percentage of golfers regularly compete in traditional club competitions, with the majority playing socially or in more flexible formats. By providing a welcoming and less intimidating environment, short courses help attract new players, including women, juniors and seniors who may find 18 holes daunting.
The course will be family friendly and ideal for skill development, particularly for improving the short game, which is fundamental to overall performance. Its approachable length and design make it perfect for beginners learning the game, experienced golfers refining their short game skills, and groups looking for a relaxed and enjoyable round.
In line with Golf Australia’s directive that “all golf is golf,” formats such as short courses, driving ranges, simulators and even mini golf, are equally important in building a stronger, more inclusive golf community. The Vines Resort’s new short course represents a positive step forward in making the game more accessible and appealing to a broader audience.
When it opens in early summer 2026, the 14-hole short course will be available for the general public to play, further strengthening The Vines Resort’s position as one of Western Australia’s premier golf destinations and a leader in attracting new players to the game.
